Visit Frederick Q&A:

What's one attraction that can’t be missed when visiting your destination?
No one should miss a visit to Carroll Creek Park. This urban park features waterfront restaurants, tasting rooms, and impressive public art including the Community Bridge Mural. A flood control project launched after devastating water damage to Downtown Frederick in the 70's, this mile and a half stretch is full of hidden and not so hidden gems.

What story ideas will travel media uncover at your destination?
Frederick is truly the best of both worlds. A busy city with a charming historic Downtown is surrounded by picturesque countryside, all within a few minutes drive. Home to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and Monocacy National Battlefield, Frederick tells a Civil War story a bit less familiar than the one in the neighboring area of Gettysburg. A beautiful urban park, intriguing public art trail, and the total lack of chain stores and restaurants make Downtown Frederick's historic 50 block area a true gem. Wineries, breweries, and distilleries aren't the only homegrown products you'll find here. There is a true demand for unique and locally made products including ice cream, soap, and a variety of other high quality goods.

What plans, events does your destination have scheduled that travel media should be aware of?
Fire In Ice - The first Saturday in February brings a celebration to Downtown Frederick. Over 50 themed ice sculptures, fire dancers, and an ice playground are just a few of the attractions that line the streets. National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race - Each August America's only High-Wheel (Penny Farthing) bike race features racers from all over the world. Watch qualifying heats of racers riding antique or replica 19th Century bikes while dressed in period attire as they compete for the National Title.

Is there anything else you feel travel media should know about your destination?
Frederick is a destination on the rise, one that has maintained and improved upon its historic charm. An influx of young professionals and retirees are moving to Frederick, enjoying it's mix of small town feel and big city amenities. Frederick has gone from a quick daytrip to a popular place to spend a long weekend and as the area continues to grow, it will soon be a place to spend a week or more.
