What got you into travel writing?

I had always wanted to be a writer but didn't think I could make a living and like many others, the fear of rejection, so I pursued other things. Eight years ago I finally worked up the courage to submit a piece.

What's the most challenging part of travel writing for you?

The most challenging part of travel writing for me is the amount of time it takes to write an article.

What one thing [equipment or a personal item] can't you go without on the road?

The one thing I can't go without on the road is my camera. I'm a big believer in the memories vs things concept and like having photos to remember my journeys.

What was your most unusual and/or memorable travel experience?

My most unusual travel experience occurred at an international hotel (name withheld). I stayed two nonconsecutive nights. Things happened on both nights that had I not lived through it, wouldn't have believed it.

What is the best piece of advice you could give to a rookie travel writer?

Just do it. Although, it's easier said than done. :)
