About Me:
Helen is the CEO of the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) and has been in this position since 2009. She has traveled extensively through India, China, Thailand, Europe, Middle East, South America, Central America, Mexico, Canada and the United States. In 1984, she was invited on a diplomatic tour of the Middle East to meet with the Heads of State in Israel and Egypt.

In her role as CEO, NATJA has grown in stature in the travel media circles as well as with destination marketing organizations. The annual awards competition is highly regarded and has become a "must compete" for travel publications as well as inflight magazines in the United States and Canada. The annual conference, which emphasizes professional development as well as up to date marketing programs, is touted as on of the best conferences in the fields of travel journalism and destination marketing. During her tenure, she spearheaded the launch of TravelWorld International magazine, an online publication that is written and photographed by NATJA members.

Ms. Hernandez's has previously been a consultant to various media companies, businesses and individual's in publicity, marketing and public affairs. In the '80s, she was the Vice President of Public Affairs for Norman Lear and Jerry Perenchio's Embassy Communications (presently Sony Pictures Entertainment). Acting as this major television production company's local and national liaison, she was most instrumental in developing and supervising various corporate programs that enhanced the company's reputation in the national community for socially and culturally sensitive programming.

Ms. Hernandez currently serves on the PBS Board of Directors and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
